Hey buddy! Very Happy - well here it is... the first move of the first game here. 1. d4 - if you would like to play two games or more with me at once - just start a new topic 'orionthehunter vs Amaranth' and make the move for white... also - if you want several with black - just start the topic naming the white player first: ex 'Amaranth vs orionthehunter' for me as white - and say in the message: Your move! lol Good luck in the game! Very Happy

I guess the queen's pawn game can build into alot of interesting variations... if I play the queen's gambit - it could go slav or the many QGD lines - or the more rare (these days) queens gambit accepted... I like c4 here but I think I will play 2. Nf3 here to go into the queens pawn game - perhaps a bit less pressuring than c4, but ideal for a long game nonetheless. Yes - my move is 2. Nf3 Smile

btw - even though this is an over the board game - I will try to play blindfold for as many moves as I can - I just get lost sometimes, so this will allow me to take a look at the board to get my bearings.

2. Nc6. Btw what are the rules with viewing the board? Are we allowed to move pieces many moves out to see all the variations before we make a move or is the only piece we can touch the one we move?

For the most part - we will examine the position and consider what we think the best move to be and then post it on the forum, but moving pieces is not against the rules - as the 'touch-move' has no relevance here. The idea is that once you post the move on the forum: it is made - and as long as you don't use books/websites/engine for reference *any of your own skills over the board is fine. Anyway... I need to look at the move again and think about my reply Very Happy - I used to play the Chigorin as Black alot before, and although it is sound: it is tough to play as Black, so I may have an advantage here (I hope!) I am going to try to gain some rapid development with the move 3. c4? which is a gambit line different yet similar to the queen's gambit, but it may be even better because of the possible center pawn strength from White. I haven't looked at the lines to much, but it seems secure enough. so: 3. c4 is my move.

If we come up with any ideas - like starting with a certain opening or whatever - we can discuss the details beforehand... though if something comes up midway - we will just agree on something then and stick to it for the duration, or as a standard for this style of play if it is relevent to more than just the game we are currently playing. There are all kinds of things we COULD agree to (but probably shouldn't) like: if one of us posts an invalid *illegal move... the other player retracts the illegal move and makes a move: thus causing the person who made the illegal move to lose a turn. This would be a bad idea probably, but as long as we both agree on it: we can do it to add some excitement to the games. Smile

3. e6 I don't play much against 1. d4, but this usually seems to be the best defence.

I was looking at all of the variations where dxc4, and it is alot like the queen's gambit accepted lines without Black playing c5, but I didn't look too closely at e6 - which is more of a strait-up queen's pawn game, the thing though is usually Black tries for c5 in the queen's pawn if White plays c4, and I don't see it here - though things seem even: not sure how it fits. This is what makes the Chigorin stand out I think. I will still play it like a queen's gambit accepted line - instead of a queen's pawn game: as I have played c4 and without the c5: I think dxc4 may be inevitable. My move here is 4. Nc3 (considering Bb4 as being a logical reply - as well as dxc4, though with Bb4 I have the choice of e3 to gaurd pawn *as to keep pawn center, or cxd5 - which seems to bring about a similar result without the extra strenth of pawns in the center or development of the kingside bishop... so here 4. Nc3 is my move Very Happy

Hmm, I think you are right about me not having a chance to play c5. I should have played Nf6 instead of Nc6. Oh well. Not sure what I want here. I am going to play it abnormal I think. 4. b6 is my move.

it looks like it may be kinda a backwards dragon-like line with possible f5 later... I am going to look towards the white squares on the queenside now as a place to weave my way in... also: since this may make defending your queenside more difficult... I strongly considered 5. e4, but after further consideration - I decided upon 5. Qa4?! which has some very interesting play. One line I spotted leads to an early draw - and it may be fairly likely, but overall: the move seems exciting enough to me: so - 5. Qa4 is it!

Hmm, I will answer with Bb7 though I don't much like it. You are funny talking of draws on move 5 lol. So my move is 6. Bb7.

And here it is: 6. e4

I have a feeling that things are going to get tense now... the ice is about to break and the party is about to start... the opening is moving into the middlegame here I think soon. I enjoyed the opening while it lasted, but I have a feeling that tactics will soon be abound.
